With a Master's degree in Museum Science (Louvre Museum College), a Master’s degree in Archaeology (Sorbonne University), and a PhD in Art History (Sorbonne University), Dr. Élisabeth Chabanol carried on research about the Three Kingdoms period, specifically the site of Kyôngju. Since 2003, she has been extending her field-work to Kaesông. Here, in collaboration with the National Bureau of Cultural Properties Conservation (DPRK), she is
researching the cultural heritage of Kaesông.

Valérie Gelézeau, who was awarded a Bronze Medal of the French Centre for National Scientific Research in 2005, is the author of Séoul, ville géante, cités radieuses (Seoul, Giant City, Radiant Cities, CNRS Editions, 2003) and Ap’at’ŭ konghwaguk (The Republic of Apartments, Seoul, Humanitas, 2007), which focus on the extraordinary rise of apartments in South Korea. Since 2004, she studies the transformation of the inter-Korean border region.
Koen De CEUSTER
Associate Professor at Centre for Korean Studies, Leiden University
Currently Korea Foundation fellow affiliated with AEAS, Sungkyunkwan University
Koen De Ceuster has a PhD in Asian Studies from Leuven University (Belgium). Interested in socio-cultural history, he deals with various forms of representation, whether in relation to historiography, memory politics or the practice of art. His presentation reflects on the impediments of art becoming a full-fledged interface between North and South Korea.
