이 글은 조선무역협회에서 간행한 『조선무역협회통보』에 수록된 중국관련 항목을 분석하여 중일전쟁시기의 조중무역을 분석한 것이다. 일제가 중국해관을 접수한 이후 중국관세율이 떨어졌을 뿐만 아니라 일본군에게 필요한 물자는 관세를 적용받지 않는 경우가 많았기 때문에 조중무역은 유리한 여건을 갖게 되었다. 조선총독부는 1941년 4월에 ‘조선동아무역주식회사’를 설립하여 무역관계사업을 통일적으로 관리하고자 했다. 또한 엔블록 수출을 조정하고 판로개척, 거래알선을 위해 수출조합도 창립했으며 중국 각지에서 무역업자의 중앙통제기구로 거대조합을 만들었다. 조선무역협회는 점령지역에 파견원을 보내 현지 경제사정을 자세하고 조사하고 견본시 개최 등 수출진흥을 위한 방안을 마련했다. 조선총독부도 항로를 증설하고 교통체계를 단일화하여 전시수송력을 증강하기 위해 노력했다. 전시물자를 안정적으로 보급하기 위해 일제의 각 기관에서 노력한 결과 중일전쟁시기 조중무역은 크게 증가했다. 하지만 조중무역을 주도한 것은 일본인이었고 일본인에게 협력하고자 했던 조선인 자본가도 일제의 민족차별을 극복할 수는 없었다.

This paper aims to illustrate bilateral trade between Korea and China during the Sino-Japanese War by analyzing the China-related items recorded in the Chosun Trade Association Reports. Not only did the Chinese tariff rates drop after the Japanese imperialists administered the Chinese customs, but the goods used by the Japanese army were not subject to customs duties. Therefore, this change created favorable conditions for Chosun’s export to China. In April 1941, the Chosun Governor-General’s Office established the Chosun-East Asia Trade Co., Ltd. to manage the trade-related affairs in a unified manner. In addition, the Chosun Governor-General’s Office established an exporters association to coordinate the export-related affairs in the Yen Bloc and open new markets. A huge union was also established as a centrally controlled organization of traders from all over China. The Chosun Trade Association sent an official to the occupied areas to investigate the economic situation in detail and adopted measures to promote exports, such as hosting trade fairs. The Chosun Governor-General’s Office also made efforts to increase the transportation capacities in the occupied areas of China by expanding the transportation routes and unifying the transportation systems. As a result of efforts made by Japanese imperialist institutions to promote the stable distribution of war logistics, trade between Chosun and China had remarkably increased during the Sino-Japanese War. However, it was the Japanese who played the central role in the trade between Chosun and China and the Chosun businessmen who wanted to cooperate with the Japanese could not overcome ethnic discrimination.
